[2001/Mar/13] We have had a similar experience with misrepresented parts from Hemphill and then a refusal to refund. -- Norbert Bries <nbries1@compuserve.com>

[2000/Jul/11] I had occassion to order a bonnet for a 3000 from these good folk. I spoke directly to the owner and told him of my need for a first quality product which I was going to use for a master to create a mold from. He allowed that he only had aluminum bonnets available at that time that would likely have some minor dents (due to the soft nature of aluminum and the techniques of shipping) so fine, $600 later, I was in posession of same. I proceeded to fill the dents and to repair the contours along all the edges, which instead of being finished with 2 sharp radii, was more like one large radius. later in the week I had the opportunity to test fit the bonnet onto a shroud- I say onto instead of into as the bloody thing was a half inch to too long to fit and the compound curvature was rather erratic. I called back and spoke to one of his minions. in our conversation I discovered that the bonnet

had been fit to three different shrouds before a fit was obtained- apparently 1 in 3 is considered to be acceptable. on a later call I was able to speak to the owner who said to ship it back, and he would 'see' what he could do. My next call was quite a revelation. In it the owner denied any sort of reimbursement as I had 'modified' the part. ( the dent repair and the edge repair) as to the point that the part was made too long to fit the shroud he responded with the query as whether my car had ever been wrecked ?? ( you must know that it could not be his part, but had to be some fault on my end ) I should point out that I fit his bonnet to two different shrouds (no fits ) and compared it to three factory bonnets of which it was a consistent half inch too long, and poorly contoured. he said no refund and would I like the part back? this I declined, as I am not an aluminum fabricator- ( the same being true of the original creators) so, as it stands, he has my money, the bogus bonnet and has passed on payment for his inopportune purchase to me, and I like it not. Nor have I a very high opinion of him, the thief! -- David Broyles <debroyles@home.com>
