[2003/May/21] Need to get your driving suit altered or repaired? Helen Graves will do it for you. Her husband and son are roundy-round racers in SW Kansas. She is a professional seamstress with a little streetcorner shop in downtown Liberal, so she decided it was cheaper to make their suits than buy them. She got the SFI certification, the Nomex III fabric, and will make you one from scratch if you want. My two-layer box-quilted Simpson suit was still perfectly good -- not used that much in 10 years but it must've shrunk [vbg - no, Nomex doesn't shrink!]. It was tight on me and I needed more room. Helen took it apart, stitched in a bit more fabric, and gave me a comfortable suit. The original price for just that alteration would have been $50, but I opted to have some other work done too (ended up getting all new velcro, cuffs, some other mods, etc).
